Herbal Cough Syrup

Wild Cherry Bark has a powerful antitussive (cough suppressing) action, and as such is indicated in dry, hacking coughs that are accompanied by spasms. Due to its astringent, sedative, antispasmodic, and bronchodilator actions, it dries mucus, increases expectoration, eases coughing, and opens the airways.

Mullein contains anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, demulcent, expectorant and astringent properties. Mullein leaves are rich in saponins which are thought to be responsible for the potent respiratory benefits of this herb. They also contain mucilage which coats and soothes irritated mucus membranes, whilst their expectorant qualities help to expel congestion from the lungs. According to research, Mullein is a cross between the demulcents and saponin-bearing expectorants, which makes it effective in alleviating conditions such as bronchitis with a persistent cough, dry hacking coughs, whooping cough, colds, flu and sinusitis. The saponins contained in Mullein also exhibit anti-viral properties, further adding to its effectiveness against flu and other complaints caused by viruses. Mullein can be used to help to detoxify the lungs after quitting smoking. Breathing in steam from its leaves or consuming the tea can help to break up and clear out the tar that has accumulated in the lungs. It can also help to cleanse and soothe the bronchial tubes and strengthen the lungs.

Ginger root has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for over 4,000 years. Antiviral, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of ginger effectively fight the root cause of respiratory tract infections, such as bronchitis.

Horehound has a long history of use for relieving coughs. Its expectorant properties,  help to loosen bronchial secretions and eliminate mucus.

Licorice Root can increase the production of healthy mucous within the bronchial system to promote a well respiratory system function and prevent stagnant, sticky mucus from clogging up the respiratory tract. Licorice helps fight off the viruses that cause respiratory illnesses and help to reduce bronchial spasms.

Elderberries are thought to reduce symptoms of upper respiratory infections. Elderberries boost the immune system and contain anti-viral properties.

Osha has powerful antiviral and antibacterial & antimicrobial properties. Its anti-inflammatory actions work to alleviate mucous membrane inflammation, opening bronchial airways to ease breathing. Osha root is used to help coughs become productive and can relieve congestion. Among its many benefits include the ability to clear mucus from the sinuses and lungs, relieving congestion and making breathing much easier, increasing oxygenation within the body. Osha root has the ability to cut through even the thickest phlegm, and it provides such a wide range of benefits that it comes highly recommended for virtually all types of colds, flus and coughs. Additionally, there are reports of favorable use by people suffering from asthma, allergies, emphysema, pneumonia and chronic coughing. One of the most notable actions of Osha root is its numbing effect, used to help soothe a sore throat.
