Krishna Holy Basil, also known as Ocimum tenuiflorum, is a tropical herbaceous plant from the mint family with purple stems and leaves that turn into a vibrant magenta color as they mature. This variant of the commonly known sweet basil is named after the Hindu god Krishna, who is often depicted with blue skin. As a significant herb in Ayurvedic medicine, Krishna Holy Basil is highly revered in India as a sacred plant. It is often grown near temples and private residences and has a distinct peppery and crisp flavor, making it a popular choice for tulsi tea. The leaves smell of peppermint, cloves, licorice and/or lemon.
