Women's Herbal Balance
Organic Loose & Caffeine~Free, Herbal Tea
Balance is key to women’s health and well-being. When the body is stressed, it diverts its resources from producing reproductive hormones in order to make more cortisol. Naturally, this can have a negative impact on fertility, sexuality, and the menstrual cycle.
Hormones are chemical messengers that help your cells communicate and trigger various actions. They’re the bedrock of your body’s endocrine system, which regulates growth, reproduction, metabolism, temperature, and even your mood. Hormones and the endocrine system keep your body in a balanced state of homeostasis. Women undergo natural changes to their hormone levels at certain times throughout their lifecycle, notably during puberty, pregnancy, and menopause.
Shatavari is a nourishing tonic for women during all stages of life. It helps to balance hormones & menstruation, enhance libido & fertility and reduce menopausal symptoms. Shatavari is an adaptogen with a regulating effect throughout the body, helping to nourish a weakened and depleted system. The sweet and bitter tastes of this herb give it the perfect energetic qualities to reduce hot pitta and dry vata, while increasing wet kapha. It is regarded as cooling, moistening, heavy and strengthening. These actions are often needed in women's health, where high vata creates depletion leading to menstrual deficiencies. Therefore, shatavari's nourishing properties are employed to rejuvenate the reproductive system, building the volume and quality of menstrual blood and assisting fertility. Its nourishing and cooling properties are also perfect for alleviating the dry-hot flushes of menopause as well as the burning irritation of urinary infections. It is a go-to herb not only for reproductive and hormonal problems, but it’s equally used to quell stress and inflammation.
Scientists identified the plant’s phytoestrogens ~ biochemicals with estrogen-mimicking properties. Phytoestrogens are especially important in menopause, the time when female-estrogen levels decline and these plant-based chemicals can supply needed hormones to relieve common menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes or weight gain. This herb also contains shatavarins and sarsapogenin which are natural precursors to female sex hormones. These two key constituents in Shatavari are thought to be responsible for Shatavari's hormone balancing activity.
Shatavari has a long use in Ayurveda for also increasing Sattva (healing energy) inside the body. It also increases Ojas, which is a Sanskrit term loaded with meaning: Ojas is often explained as the subtle essence of all vital fluids responsible for health, vitality, strength, longevity, immunity, emotional wellbeing, and spiritual growth. As a plant that increases Ojas, this herb invigorates the body and mind with essential energy. It infuses tissues with strength and endurance, and it protects the health and vitality of cells, affecting and influencing all bodily functions and physiological processes.
Ashwagandha contains anti-inflammatory and hormone-balancing properties. It resides in the nightshade family. Its roots are loaded with alkaloids and steroidal lactones. For this reason, it is a powerful anti-stress, antioxidant and adaptogenic herb. It has been used to help PCOS, FSD (Female sexual dysfunction) and NCAH. This Ayurvedic herb has been to reduce stress hormones and stimulate blood flow to the female reproductive organs. It can increase arousal and sensitivity, which can be very useful as the years pass by. It has also been found that ashwagandha can help with the hot flashes, depression, and anxiety associated with menopause.
The main active plant compounds in ashwagandha are called withanolides. Withanolides can act as hormone precursors in the body, converting into human hormones as needed to help regulate physiological processes. This, along with its stress-reducing/adaptogen effects, helps to explain how ashwagandha can help restore hormonal balance. Ashwagandha may also help improve sleep and improve memory and focus.
Dandelion root is high in plant estrogens and plays a significant role in the detoxification of the body. It benefits the reproductive system by helping to regulate hormone production. Many of our hormones are metabolized and broken down in our liver. Promoting healthy metabolism means toxins and excess hormone products don't build up. Dandelion root has many benefits for women with PCOS. The beta-carotene and polyphenolic found in dandelions are extremely powerful antioxidants that help reduce oxidative stress as well as reduce the signs of aging. It can also be helpful in reducing water weight (as a natural diuretic), soothe digestive ailments, support liver health and help prevent UTIs.
Vitex itself does not contain hormones, but it acts on the pituitary gland and regulates its function, thus balancing hormone levels. It acts on the anterior pituitary (in the brain), reducing the release of prolactin, which regulates progesterone levels indirectly through the pituitary-hypothalamic axis. Vitex increases progesterone by increasing luteinizing hormone (LH) and inhibiting follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). In most reproductive conditions involving hormone imbalance, estrogen dominance or progesterone imbalance tend to be common. Vitex increases progesterone and LH levels, and also decreases FSH and prolactin levels. It is often used to help with dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation), amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), fertility, PMS, mastalgia (breast tenderness), menopausal symptoms, and other various disorders related to hormone dysfunction including acne or other skin issues. Vitex promotes regular ovulation and healthy ovaries. In conditions like PCOS and endometriosis, Vitex is helpful in restoring ovulation and regulating progesterone levels.
Historically in TCM, schisandra berries were used to promote a balance between yin and yang. It’s said to help “calm the heart and quiet the spirit” by positively affecting the brain, kidneys, liver and lungs. With their ability to support adrenal health, reproductive health and liver health, schisandra berries are a powerful herb for those struggling with hormonal imbalance symptoms. Like ashwagandha, it is considered an adaptogen and helps to lower cortisol levels. This may help increase libido, reduce anxiety, reduce mental fatigue and so on. Because it positively impacts hormone production, including estrogen, it’s capable of helping with bone healing and forming bone mineral density. This is useful for preventing diseases like osteoporosis, which are common among older women as they experience changes in hormonal levels.
