Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) belongs to the Pedaliaceae family and is predominantly found in the arid regions of southern Africa, particularly in Namibia and South Africa. This distinctive plant features long, creeping stems that can extend several feet, adorned with palmate leaves resembling those of a maple. Its most notable feature is the claw-like fruits that give the plant its name. The root, which is the primary part used, is harvested in the fall, during which time it is dug up carefully to ensure that some roots remain in the ground for the plant's regrowth.

Historically, Devil's Claw has been important in traditional practices, especially among Indigenous peoples of southern Africa who have used the root for its various properties. It is commonly prepared as a tea or tincture. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Devil's Claw is valued for its ability to support balance within the body. In Ayurveda, it is recognized for its potential to enhance vitality and promote overall well-being.*
