Lion’s Mane Powder
Hericium erinaceus, commonly known as lion’s mane, is an edible fungus with a long history in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). It has been used in traditional Chinese and Japanese medicine for many centuries to support overall health and longevity.
Lion’s mane is a known nootropic (cognitive enhancer) promoting focus, mental clarity and memory, while providing cerebral & nervous system support and improving overall cognitive function.
This fungi is known to increase the production of nerve growth factor. NGF is a small protein that plays pivotal roles in neuronal survival in the adult brain and modulates the brain’s ability to change its structure and move functions from damaged parts of the brain to undamaged parts. Studies suggest lion’s mane can help slow the progress of cognitive decline, such as Alzheimers & Dementia, by reducing symptoms of memory loss and preventing neuronal damage.
The primary active compounds in Lion's Mane are hericenones and erinacines. Hericenones help your brain produce more NGF, and erinacines easily cross the blood-brain barrier to boost the production of neurons. Other various active compounds, include polyphenols, beta-glucans and triterpenoids.
Lion’s mane is also known as a nervous system tonic or trophorestorative. It shares the immunomodulant and anti-inflammatory activity of other mushrooms used in herbalism, which may be one part of its use in neurodegenerative disorders with an inflammatory component.(1)
Lion’s mane is considered a mood enhancer to help support depression and anxiety. Studies also show its support for the immune system, due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Additionally, polysaccharides found in lion’s mane can increase activity in the intestinal immune system and help promote a healthy gut.
